"................Who doesn’t have at least one cover of the seemingly ubiquitous song “Hallelujah” in their iTunes collection, if not the Jeff Buckley version. Along with pulling the first all nighter to finish that term paper and taking PS 22: City Politics, possessing this song seems to be a near requirement of all college freshmen.
Twenty-five years ago, a character on the TV show The Young Ones named Neal–the hippie–said, “I’m beginning to feel like a Leonard Cohen record, cause nobody ever listens to me.” Today, in contrast, one particular Leonard Cohen song is featured prominently in no less than three separate episodes of teen uberdrama The OC, and can be heard in at least twenty-four separate movies and TV episodes, almost always as the soundtrack to a montage of people being sad.What I hope to show today is how, exactly, that happened to a song called “Hallelujah.”After reading this I simultaneously both wanted to delete my copy of this song AND listen to it as well...................{Read More............................ }

Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz, 28, revealed to MTVU that he tried to kill himself. Pete tried to overdose on prescription pills a couple of years ago, because he was stressed:"I got in my car. I remember I was listening to Jeff Buckley doing Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' and sat there and took a bunch of [anxiety drug] Ativan in a Best Buy parking lot. And I called up my manager because I was, at that point, completely out of my head with Ativan. And I was talking to him and I was slurring...... read more.....

I think he left our Bono's cover.
I've been listening to Cohen since I bought songs of LC/ S F A Room/ S O L & Hate- and never stopped listening. I saw him live in Dublin late 60's /early 70's (I can't remember the year)
he played the Boxing Ring South Circular Road. I've never stopped listening, and never grown tired of his lyrics- except for maybe one or two songs like Dress Rehearsal Rag.

Listening to Leonards' words unfold is like a religous experience. I love his dedication to writing. He has said that he often spends an entire day just to perfect one verse.
"Sisters of Mercy" and "If It Be Your Will" (esp. Antony's version)bring me to my knees every time.

And am I stoned? or does Teddy Thompson not look like Eddie Haskel from Leave it To Beaver?

I thought it was about angels!.....I didn't know the back story.... Ahhhh.. Thanks for ruinin' it for me! (kidding)

So what about the reading their address by the moon part then?

You know, Leonard Cohen is so humble and there is this grace in everything about him. When he speaks, you just have to sit up and hang on each word as if your gonna miss something. That "Market Square" song about Janice, (that song breaks my heart) but LC is the only man who can talk about getting head and still have it come out sweet & graceful....

My fav. verse?...
"I don't mean to suggest that I loved you the best. You can't keep track of each fallen robin".........what a sweet way to say "You didn't really mean shit."

I think my favorite one besides "Halleluja" & "If it be your will" is "Tower of Song". What a great song!! He even pays tribute to Hank which to me is the Coolest.
