Oh I wish I hadn’t read this just before bed - I’ll have nightmares now - snakes wanting to get inside small children? Eeek!
I hope that was just a superstition about the snakes.
All through history, snakes have gotten a bum rap, should they I wonder? It is a very eerie picture of the snakes just waiting to get to the babies, ugh!
A creepy thought! Old books had some marvellous illustrations much better than the POW! and ZAP! of today.

That must have been where the "Rock-a-bye baby in the treetop ..." song comes from. I just never guessed that when the bough breaks and the cradle did fall that the baby would be eaten by snakes!

All along I've been fearful of snakes that might bite or swallow babies, and it never even occurred to me to worry about snakes burrowing into them somehow. Oh, dear!
How adorable...it's true you haven't really changed at all...a great photo...now more about those snakes and babies and bearded....you just never know sometimes what will be inside ...! I have given up judging books by their titles even!
YIKES! I know a number of the snakes where I live can climb trees. I asked my 4 year old son if he would like a story that had this picture in in and he said "No". :)

Yes it was indeed a difficult theme : books were pretty rare in the houses of ordinary people fifty years or so ago. I remember getting one as a prize from my Junior School (for good attendance rather than academic achievement) and it being stacked on the top of the sideboard along with the two or three family books.

They were talking about those incubators on QI.
Apparently they had them at the fair before any hospital installed them. Then when their performance at the fair convinced medical administrators, they were installed in hospitals too - which killed off the novelty of the fair attraction.
Swedes are pretty DUMB if they think a snake cannot climb a tree.
We have tree snakes in Australia. They eat sleeping birds at night.
