The Rochdale Hamam

On the 10th June  the Rochdale   Hamam finally  closes its doors ........{update: I turned up on Friday 8th to be told  the old boiler had  blown up & the Hamam was closed forever....out with a bang not a whimper...!}
This posts marks it's passing.
 Here are some of my photos of the old place.
One of the Ottoman inventions was to “parboil” thousands of Greeks in Turkish baths and then send them, barely clothed, on death marches in the snow, to die of pneumonia and other related sicknesses. Parboiling avoided spilling blood (whereas using axes and spades to slaughter the victims was bloody), nor bullets, which were too expensive. .........."
What has Tony done today? I spent the day pondering The Weatherman telling me it was 27 degrees in Rome & supporting a good friend at a ConDem Disability Benefits Appeals Tribunal in Bradford.( I felt like a witness in The Leveson Inquiry..are we all on Trial these days?) Next Week I suspect I  will see the Manager at Rochdale Central Baths & ask if I can have one of the wooden benches from The Hot Rooms.A bit of sanding/painting & it would look kinda cool in my Garden..non? No Doubt,Neil will be Rolling Another Number with Liz this weekend?

Oh, I want to see that, Neil and Liz catchin' a buzz.

I've always liked the way your posts expand, like adding to a collage.

Love the farm photo in your previous post.

Another intriguing post, Tony. Definitely go for the wooden bench!

your blogging style plays havoc with my blog reader (thunderbird) - which downloads a copy of the page from the atom feed... blah blah znooze..... and by the time I look at the actual web page.... snore hum blah blah..... covered in piss!

suffice to say, your style is what I would classify as "organic" and whilst this doesn't fit particularly well with the rigidity of modern technology..... we wouldn't have you any other way!!

A bench from the baths would make a great addition to your garden and a great momento for you.

I hope you get that bench.

Aw, that parboiling does not sound very humane, that must have been a long suffering for those pore people.:(
But 27C sounds lovely, we have so far had a very cold start on June with only 11C, brrr.
Isn't it time to go to Italy soon Tony?;))
