'Have-a-go hero training' urged for public to tackle antisocial behaviour

This week's theme is "weddings".I don't have any of me& Cath scanned......So this is one i found called "Blitz Wedding" which is appropriate to this post.
A photo I took this week of the demolition  of The Rochdale Hamam.

Did you know? An Alaskan pigeon holds the record for the longest non-stop flight (11500 miles) from Alaska to New Zealand. This fact I share because I was reminiscing with someone today  who used to go to The Rochdale Hamam. He reminded me of a bloke that used to there.in the 1980'sHe bred & raced pigeons. He made the  hobby sound interesting....he would let his birds fly away. And go & pick them up wherever they landed and parked their arses. He travelled the world to retrieve his brave pigeons {.Europe & Asia included.}Sounds like fun, non?Although I cant help thinking that ,knowing my luck,if it had been me I would have bought  a job-lot of birds who had a morbid obsession with somewhere like Barnsley..........
Talking of exotic travellers.....Hebden Bridge saw a flock of EDL  supporters land here  last Saturday afternoon..For my USA  readers, the EDL are like the KKK without the dress-sense/poise &    sophistication ...
Cath got caught up in their nonsense (you can see her  4:36 into this EDL video. She's the one stood by the drainpipe;bag over shoulder;just above the EDL lad's shoulder). The Far Right are on the march throughout Europe .Why should Hebden be any different?Incidentally, the "commie" in the video was, infact,a pissed Leeds United supporter (I know ,any easy mistake to make ,Fidel Castro  is forever reminiscing about Don Revie's 4-2-4 formation). You will notice the total absence of Police. These days ,Brits are encouraged to Police themselves........
( "have a go hero training for public urged")Lucky Us! we are getting lots of visitors here in Hebden......  BBC radio "Any Questions" on 30th August is broadcast live from the new Town Hall.I don't know who the panelists are although, no doubt, will include a rabid female Daily Mailer:A venomous  right wing Historian;A recently dead Tory MP...etc etc....
.Also! Patti Smith plays The Hebden Bridge  Trades Club on the 8th September.
She is  donating proceeds from a gig she is playing to the Aid for Flood Victims in the Hebden Bridge area.

This is a Sepia Saturday post.
More about the Hebden Bridge Trades Club here
I also found this video (poor picture/good sound) of Pattie Smith & Neil Young singing Helpless (blue blue windows etc)
And with Bob Dylan in 1995 singing  Dark Eyes

Right wing is on the rise everywhere. Sorry to hear you have any version of the kkk. Nice song and nice hopeful wedding in the midst of the ruins.

I just love that first photo, it just goes to show, it doesn't really matter where you get married, if you so desire, any place will do! Great post!

The bliz wedding shot is quite wonderful. Sort of a perfect British visual in response to the war. You won't stop us.

I like Patti Smith better now that she's off the goofball.

I thought these pigeons always returned home again. No need to pick them up, unless you want to of course :)
Love this Blitz Wedding picture. Hope their marriage was better than their furniture.

Yes, it's a shame about the rise of the right. Our town is drowning in tea partiers. A man stands at our post office with a giant poster of Obama sporting a moustache labelled "Obama is hitler". Time to move - but where?

umm (strokes chin) Peter...you might be right! Maybe I got the story wrong! ???Maybe he took the birds with him to Asia..& they returned home? :)Another problem is we have over the Pennines A Bermuda Triangle for racing pigeons. It's a jungle up there..........

The blitz wedding is one of the best photos shown this week.

There is a sad circularity about the post - starting with a wedding in a place destroyed by the very kind of fascist thugs that (thank goodness) a few people are prepared to stand up against today.

The image of the Blitz wedding is a sad contrast to all the stiff and formal wedding pictures that are posed. I expect it was a pretty common occurrence.

Amazing photo. It may be a trick of the light, but the vicar looks a bit young. In these days of urban legends and internet scams one is more suspicious. Where was it? I wonder if it's a real wedding or if a journalist got them to pose? It would make a good propoganda news photo - carry on regardless and all that.

Great post. The DIY "police" in St. George shirts reminds me of the dystopian, J.G.Ballad novel, Kingdom Come.

"Brothers ... Sisters ... we don't need this fascist groove thang".

A dramatic choice to follow this week's theme, if an interesting one, capturing a difficult time.

Have you found another haman yet?

As for politics, here in Quebec, we've just turned slightly to the left, and only time will show if we were right to do so... This is my comfort zone, but a minority government is not the most efficient nor guaranteed a long life...

Bruno..........No Alternative hamam yet for me .There is one in Doncaster (60 miles away!) that Ive never tried but might do occasionally in the future. Also, a Great one also in Harrogate (a bit like dying&going to heaven!)but its 30ish miles away & they just put their prices up to £20 a session....!So thats less of an option than it once was.....Hey-Hoy!

With less competition, I'm not surprised at all their price is going up... but that's no way to draw in new customers.
