23 Savile Crescent,Halifax.

This is a Sepia Saturday post.
Alan mentioned Google Maps today, so that set me thinking.....here is a photo from "Maps"  of the house in Halifax I grew up as a kid.The house on the left.Top window (nearest the road)was my bedroom .I still,to this day ,have frequent vivid dreams about this road.Welcome to my world!
Its only a matter of time before Google find a way to photograph the inside of our houses!
In the meantime, here are a couple of photos I took of a corner of my bedroom.I guess 1972.I had just returned from a year in London (working in The Carter Lane Youth Hostel).I went back to Further Education college in Halifax to get my O & A Levels (in just one year!! I had left school at 16 with no qualifications...so I was playing catchup).Within 12 months i would be at Teacher Training College in Liverpool.
Essentially this was a shrine to the London Hippy Life I had left behind.Free Festivals:cannabis:LSD; & Opium and OZ marches
Ken sent me these photos this week. Some of them capture the era quite well.

What wild and crazy walls, they should have kept your life exciting! I love checking out where I used to live, and sometimes just viewing places I've been and enjoyed...it's almost, ALMOST as good as being there....and I think you had a lovely view from your window...the view out of my bedroom window growing up was a gigantic field....our house was like on the edge of town!

You have reminded me that I have some pictures taken in the last few years of the house in which I was born. No pictures of the inside though and my bedroom window can't be seen. Material for a future post perhaps?

Heh, heh! You old hippie, you! Yeah, I had some interesting decorating ideas back in '72, too.

In 1972 I was already at teacher training college; I don’t remember anything about LSD and cannabis etc though, obviously Lincoln was a bit more staid than Liverpool! Mind you with that wallpaper who needed LSD? :) I was looking at some pics of our house at about the same era recently - big swirly patterns on the wall and a different one on the carpets or lino!!!

Nice one, Tony. Of course, there were sections of this post I didn't understand. I mean, cannabis and LSD? What on earth is that?

Liverpool Teacher Training? I was in Liverpool though not training to be a teacher, working at Plessey Telecomms, Edge Lane. I remember those days only too well. :)

It's fun to get a glimpse into people's lives from an earlier time. Thanks for showing us these images and taking us back there with you. It's nice to see where we came from, where we've been, and how we got to Here.

I have no pictures of my room as you do. Now I'm sad.

How old would that house be?

Google maps fascinate me and I think you're right it's only a matter of time before they get inside our homes.

How did you type upside in my comments Tony?

That is some seriously wild wallpaper.

And my oh my your window was so close to traffic.

I remember in one house where I lived that was right on the curve of a corner, that I used to fear someone taking the turn too fast and coming right into my room. My fear was not unfounded because someone did take the corner at high speed and rolled their car right across my neighbors front yard.

Love that wallpaper. In 72 I was mothering 5 kiddos, thank goodness, with their father. I had heard of those hippie things but no time to ever try them. Thank goodness.

What a psychedelic wall paper.;) That picture brings back memories of our first room (mine and my sisters) in Sweden. We also had many drawings up on the walls fastened with pins.;)
Have a great Monday Tony,

That wallpaper certainly makes a statement! In 1972, I'd just started secondary school. It all seems a long, long time ago......
