raining on our parade?

Here is a still from a 1924 black&white silent movie of The Hebden Bridge Carnival.Click Here to Watch It.
Over the past 4 years it has morphed into The Hebden Bridge  Handmade Parade.
The weather forecast for this year's parade on Saturday isn't that clever. 11 15 degrees & rain!Keep your fingers crossed that it ain't so!

2009

I will add my photos from this year's Parade here over the weekend. In the meantime here are My photos from 2010 & 2009
This Is A Sepia Saturday Post.
I heard from Leanne (left) this week.We worked together a few moons ago in Halifax. She now lives +works in the Deep South.
She & other   good people from Barnsley Social Services are taking part in
The Barnsley Kilimanjaro Charity Trek 2011 helping to raise money for a local Hospice.Good Luck To All Concerned.
For my music this week I was going sneak in Dylan singing  about being
"I’m ready to go anywhere, I’m ready for to fade
Into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way
I promise to go under it....................."
Until I Saw This Rather Groovy Parody...........

2010

Finally,Some Sepia Poetry..............
 In the drinking-well
(Which the plumber built her)
Aunt Eliza fell–
We must buy a filter.
***
Little Willie, in the best of sashes,
Fell in the fire and was burned to ashes.
By and by the room grew chilly,
But no one liked to poke up Willie.
***
“There’s been an accident,” they said,
“Your servant’s cut in half; he’s dead!”
“Indeed!” said Mr. Jones, “and please
Send me the half that’s got my keys.”
***
Father heard his children scream
So he threw them in the stream
Saying, as he drowned the third,
"Children should be seen, not heard!"

I don't believe any amount of rain would dampen your spirits, Tony. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for sunshine, in any case.

I'm not sure what's happening (something English, no doubt) but I support you 100%.

Sounds like fun. I hope the rain holds off and the temperatures rise a little. You parade sounds something like two events up in my old home of Rhode Island: the Chepachet Ancient & Horribles Parade on July 4, where all participants dress up in costumes, many satirizing the political and the newsworthy; and the Fool's Rules Regatta in Jamestown, in August, where you're given two hours to construct a "sailing boat" out of non-traditional materials (packing crates, old bathtubs, etc. have been used) and then sail a 500 yard downwind course. Whoever actually stays afloat for the entire 500 yards wins. It's great fun!

Let’s hope those umbrellas won’t be needed; I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun anyway!

I enjoyed the movie ... the streets were so narrow and the crowd was so large, it seemed as if everybody was all squished together!

Those poems sure are dark, especially the one about the little boy burning in the fire, but I must be in a weird mood this morning, because I'm still laughing. Brother!

Have a great weekend, and thanks so much for stopping by to say hello.

Take care,

Kathy M.

Funny parody...he mentions Dr. Kevorkian. Did you see that he died last week?
Now I'm going to go listen to "Mr. Tambourine Man".
Have fun tomorrow! Looking forward to seeeing your photos.

Good luck today Tony. I loved the 1924 movie. A real elephant in Hebden Bridge in 1924! Who'd have thought it!

Excellent parody. Thanks for that.
Never mind Jack Kervorkian - did you see Patrick Leigh Fermor finally died. Well he was dead old. I love his writing. I'd always hoped that something hidden away there might be the final part to his travelling from the Hook of Holland or Rotterdam all the way to Constantinople. Imagine - an 18-year-old in 1933. The two books that are published go as far as the Yugoslav border. The third was never written. Or will we perhaps discover that is is published posthumously? I think I would contribute towards the cost is such a manuscript exists.

lol.. that was a great parody (and freaking scary!)

the last poem was perfect. Of course I find poems on questionable parenting a hoot.

Both the new and the old Hebden Bridge carnivals look like a lot of fun, whatever the name. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

The Hebden Bridge carnivals deserve the sun shining...I loved these "odd" poems; I think my favorite "no one wanted to poke Willy" I am laughing at all with my morning tea....It appears to be festival time there. Have fun...

Well, my favorite "poem" is the top one. Must buy a filter, indeed. Loved the parody, too.
