These days, Holly reminds me of Short Trousers:Chilblains (whatever happened to them? when I Lived In A Cardboard Box In The Middle Of The Road, some nights,they were all I had to keep me warm......):Being in love with Anne Haw (what A name!)who sat in the desk in front of me at Saint Mary's Primary School (i had the "hots" for her in a very pre-puberty/Catholic way):Rugby League:National Health Service glasses (those wee ones like John Lennon wore): etc etc.

As I lost my religion, sat in Confession , I didn't hear Latin no more ,the voice from that old rugged cross was Buddy Holly & His Chirping Crickets !

No Danny ,Reggae wasn't known in Texas in the Mid-50s.The Klu Klux Clan would have had a dicky-fit!
I always liked Holly's [anti]Image.He looked like a nerd.While Elvis was shaking his hips & making all the white girls cum....I guess,the most you could hope of Holly was that his glasses might steam up during the raunchy bits.......
He was the first (i think) to use Black musicians (eg King Curtis) and nick black folks rhythms & share them with the rednecks.

I've always been a Buddy Holly fan. I never did think much of Elvis, but people like Buddy, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Big Bopper and all that type were more my style. Heh, heh! Which was why I liked the Stones more than the Beatles, and The Who above everybody. Give me the raw, real stuff any time!
Good luck to anyone who wants to stand up to the ConDem government - but the jolly old "day of action"? If I were a class teacher and it was the only option available I'd vote for it, but when it was the weapon of choice of the labour movement in the 80s the Tories won hands down.
(I'm reminded of a cartoon from the 80s. Smoke filled room. Men sitting round table. One says "Well, that's decided, brothers. We'll hold a 3 minute moment of action").

Was in Hebden Bridge this afternoon. We sat for some time watching an artist from Ecuador balancing rocks on their ends in the stream that runs through the village centre.

I missed the fun in Hebden today.....I was painting gloss EVERYWHERE in my house + am currently high on the fumes!

I just heard a mother speaking on the radio about the teacher's strike. She said she felt sorry for the parents, because they would have to arrange for child care while schools are closed. I never heard the word 'education' mentioned at all. Have some people really forgotten why their children attend school? Are teachers really seen as little more than child-minders who fill the days with random parcels of knowledge for the kids to unwrap?
I'll be looking out for that album, by the way.
