Dearest Not Fade Away

When I Was 9 my big brother Zyg bought me my first L.P. It was "Buddy Holly's Greatest Hits".This was the early 60's ,after Buddy died + just before The Beatles & puberty kicked in )
These days, Holly  reminds me of Short Trousers:Chilblains (whatever happened to them? when I Lived In A Cardboard Box In The Middle Of The Road, some nights, they were all I had to keep me warm......):Being in love with Anne Haw (what A name!)who sat in the desk in front of me at Saint Mary's Primary School (i had the "hots" for her in a very pre-puberty/Catholic way):Rugby League:National Health Service glasses (those wee ones like John Lennon wore): etc etc.
ah Nostalgia!
As I lost my religion, sat in Confession , I didn't hear Latin no more ,the voice from that old rugged cross  was   Buddy Holly & His Chirping Crickets !
Anyway, out at the end June is this album of Holly covers.Featuring Lou Reed;Nick Lowe;Paul McCartney:My Morning Jacket:The Black Keys (above);Pattie Smith;Fiona Apple ;Julia Casablanca: & many more. Here are Florence & The Machine singing "Not Fade Away".

My Best Wishes To The Teachers who are having the first of their one day strikes next Thursday I was an NUT rep in Bradford in the mid-1980s when that Evil old whore Maggie Thatcher   (spit)was La Maîtresse Principale. Ah Nostalgie!

that Black Keys track has a very nice smattering of reggae there, tony. tell me did the original have the same sound - was reggae invented in Buddy's day?

i too am sending good vibes to the teachers, and, as a matter o fact all those planning to strike as well

No Danny ,Reggae wasn't known in Texas in the Mid-50s.The Klu Klux Clan would have had a dicky-fit!
I always liked Holly's [anti]Image. He looked like a nerd. While Elvis was shaking his hips & making all the white girls cum....I guess, the most you could hope of Holly was that his glasses might steam up during the raunchy bits.......
He was the first (i think) to use Black musicians (eg King Curtis) and nick black folks rhythms & share them with the rednecks.

I've always been a Buddy Holly fan. I never did think much of Elvis, but people like Buddy, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Big Bopper and all that type were more my style. Heh, heh! Which was why I liked the Stones more than the Beatles, and The Who above everybody. Give me the raw, real stuff any time!

Good luck to anyone who wants to stand up to the ConDem government - but the jolly old "day of action"? If I were a class teacher and it was the only option available I'd vote for it, but when it was the weapon of choice of the labour movement in the 80s the Tories won hands down.

(I'm reminded of a cartoon from the 80s. Smoke filled room. Men sitting round table. One says "Well, that's decided, brothers. We'll hold a 3 minute moment of action").

History repeats itself, the first time as tragedy, the second time as farce, as somebody once said.

oh dear, I am turning into a a cynical old git:)

Was in Hebden Bridge this afternoon. We sat for some time watching an artist from Ecuador balancing rocks on their ends in the stream that runs through the village centre.

Yea Bill, I suspect It Will End In Tears........I think we know that , butwhat else can be done? we are living in The History Channel!
I missed the fun in Hebden today.....I was painting gloss EVERYWHERE in my house + am currently high on the fumes!

I just heard a mother speaking on the radio about the teacher's strike. She said she felt sorry for the parents, because they would have to arrange for child care while schools are closed. I never heard the word 'education' mentioned at all. Have some people really forgotten why their children attend school? Are teachers really seen as little more than child-minders who fill the days with random parcels of knowledge for the kids to unwrap?

I'll be looking out for that album, by the way.

Buddy Holly was a little before my time, I'm a Beatles gal. Still without Holly would the Beatles have emerged?

Thanks For Bringing That Up Kurt!
