I pity the poor immigrant.....

I see the turd has floated back again to the top of the bowl......
One of my favourite Bob Dylan songs, from one of my favourite Bob Dylan albums.
I always consider my Dad when I listen to these lyrics.
: Although I'm not sure (now) that they actually reflect him.....but,on some level. perhaps they do?
I will let the angels decide that one!
This version is from Robyn Hitchcock.  Recorded on the 27th December 2018 in San Francisco.
You can listen /download  the whole concert  here:

2018

view & download these photos (it's free!) here:
https://zimnoch.smugmug.com/My-historyfamily/2018/ Your not going to get any description or explaination  .You know that, dont you?   But it does look like I might have had a good & busy year. I saw surprisingly few gigs this year.
Though what I did see , was quality.
Jane Siberry ("so so good" in my best Donald Trump voice) . I listened to her music in 1997 (long drives from Boston Spa) Every bit as beautiful as I hoped.
British Sea Power ( for the 5th time in my life) Why are they not big?
Simone Felice at The Deaf Institute in Manchester (what quirky venue) .I love the bloke.
But my best gig was Young Fathers in Manchester. So much intelligence. So much forward thinking .a knock out concert.

poortoun : "a city with my name on, i will enter in disguise" : Jackie Leven.

see all this week's sepia saturday posts

I am having incredible lucid dreams at the moment: like a box-set I keep getting repeats of 'Previous Espisodes'. Mostly of places I used to live. Hebden Bridge:Halifax:Cheshire:Liverpool:London's East End;London's City ..etc. Warm dreams...but I wake up wondering where I am now......No Partisan!

Jackie Leven:Winchester: 2001. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackie_Leven
It's 7 years since dear sweet Jackie died.......
here   is my post from that time...........
This week's sepia saturday theme is around that of "bedroom".
Here are two photos I took of my bedroom in 1972.
I can date them fairly well, due to the wall display.
I was back at my Mum & Dad's house in Halifax after a year in the City of London youth hostel where I had been working.
I display a pencil sketch of me drawn by a lass from Wales. Some underground newspapers & graphics from OZ magazine on the wall.
No Maps you notice? Just a calendar.
Within months, I was off to Liverpool & teacher training college.
This was my security between the two......
Strange to say, I feel myself ( a little) in that same place again...

doris and the olden days

Me & doris in the early noughties outside the Crown & Anchor pub in Halifax.

A Lovely day.
I met with Doris for a Greek Meal in Hebden Bridge at lunchtime ( catching up on news) .
It's what grown up people do.
Strange how we might know hundreds of people in our lives,. but only a few come back to check up where we are now,
What a lovely person.
Then onto Halifax for a few jars with Phil & Ken...................
(Thursday night: ITN News spent 50 minutes looking at this post tonight. What's that about? Are they looking for "the new Trevor McDonald? )

The guest speaker was an Damian Casserley ,economist who was an advisor to Gordon Brown/Ed Balls in the last Labour Government.
He was talking about the challenges to an incoming Labour Government.
We had tea & cake.

Negro Colleges in Wartime

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Death_of_Emmett_Till

A movie sponsored by the U.S. Office of War Information:made in 1944. details here :
This is a sepia saturday post.
The theme is around images that feature " cold stone statues and haunted, unrecognisable faces...."
The statue pictured is that of "Lifting the Veil of Ignorance" a monument to educator Booker T. Washington on the campus of Tuskegee University in Macon County.
The statue is  by Charles Keck , and was dedicated in 1922.
I didnt know of Booker T until I saw this movie . You can read about his life here:
My immediate thought, while watching the movie , was that I guess those Alabama students you see would have had to sit at the back of their buses travelling  from the college after  filming .......... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emmett_Till
Maybe   Emmitt Till's Open Coffin did more for US Civil Rights than any Statue or movie ever did.....?
